At Dentists R Us, we want our clients to walk away with a healthy smile, and – if they so choose – a reduced look of aging on their face. That is why we conveniently offer Botox in office.
What Is Botox?
If you have not heard of Botox, it is a substance derived from botulinum toxin, a protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.
How Does It Work?
It works by preventing nerve impulses from reaching the muscle, which causes the muscle to relax, creating a temporary smooth and improved appearance between the brows. The treatment is temporary and the effects last for up to four months. The skin around the injection site will look smoother but the rest of your face will not be affected and you’ll still be able to laugh, smile and frown.
It can be used to treat any dynamic wrinkles on the face; that is any wrinkles caused by movement.
Who Discovered It?
Many people do not realize that Botox actually has a history that stretches back over a hundred years when it was first identified, and its therapeutic uses were realized.
Then, in 1987 a local Canadian Ophthalmologist – Dr. Jean Carruthers – was treating patients for blepharospasm (eye spasms) with Botox and observed that a side effect of the treatment was the reduction of crow’s feet and wrinkles around the eyes.
…and this anti-aging serum was fully realized and birthed into the marketplace.
So What Is The Process?
The treatment consists of a few tiny needle injections. It is quick and simple, and usually takes no longer than 15 minutes. Patients describe the procedure as fast and virtually painless. The effects of the treatment may be apparent as early as 2-3 days after injection with the full effect expected within 7-10 days after the treatment.
The results can last up to 4 months, and a follow-up treatment can be done between your bi-annual teeth cleaning appointments. Because at Dentists R Us, we are always happy to help you be smile-ready and furrow-free!
