At DentistsRUs, we aim to help all our patients with preventative care, keeping them smiling in a healthy manner year after year. That being said, life can take a toll and decay can set in, but there are ways to prevent tooth decay that we wanted to share!

Simple Tooth Decay Prevention
Of course there are the basic ways to keep decay at bay such as brushing your teeth at least twice a day, or ideally – after every meal and especially before bed.

Also, flossing your teeth to get bacteria out from the in-between spaces is also imperative to preventing decay. Alternatives to regular floss include: Oral-B Interdental Brush, Reach Stim-U-Dent, or Sulcabrush.

Also, consider rinsing daily with a fluoride-based mouthwash, and/or an antiseptic mouthwash, which will aid in killing bacteria that causes plaque.

Additionally, supplemental fluoride can be acquired from your dentist to help strengthen your teeth, so ask about this product at any of our DentistsRUs offices across the Lower Mainland.

Avoid consuming large amounts of sugary drinks and foods, especially sticky candies that can adhere to your teeth and stay there until the next time you brush. This can literally eat at your teeth until cleaned away.

Lastly, be sure to visit your dentist at least once a year – or ideally twice – to have your regular cleanings and checkups conducted.

Sealants for Adults and Children
Sealants are also an option to consider, especially for younger children. Ask any of our DentistsRUs dentists about sealants for kids and/or even adults to see how they can help prevent decay.

The Restoration for Oral Decay
If your tooth surface is affected by decay or damage, it can be removed with a dental hand-piece or laser, after which the area is cleansed to remove bacteria or debris before the restoration is completed.

The bonding procedure requires the placement of various adhesives followed by the composite material, which is then hardened with a special bonding light. The completed composite restoration is both functional and natural looking.

No matter if you want to prevent decay, or correct it, DentistsRUs wants to help you keep your teeth the optimal shade of healthy. So give one of our offices below a call, or stop by any time for a checkup appointment to keep your oral health happy!
