It is no secret that children and chores do not a-smile-make. Brushing their teeth tends to be slotted into the to-do list of drudgery. But what if you could make it a fun routine for the whole family? A before-bed toothy treat!

A healthy diet and a solid teeth-brushing regimen, is paramount in helping your child combat tooth decay, and develop a lifetime of healthy habits and oral hygiene.

Attitude Is Half The Battle

The “appearance” of fun is usually enough to convince a child to participate in any given task. That being said …aaaaaaall aboard the enthusiastic train! Creating fun oral practices, will having your kids hailing a ride on your fun teeth-brushing train.

Follow The Leader

Children often want to emulate their parents, so perhaps buy them the same colour toothbrush as you have, or try an electric one. There are many affordable battery operated options, as it pertains to toothbrushes. Some play music, which offers your child a full minute of musical entertainments, and an “end point” to their oral hygiene routine. Others offer your child the opportunity to design their own toothbrush.

Whatever the ploy, make it playful…

1. Decay Detectives

When it comes to “sugar bugs” you often can’t see the decay in action. But with the help of a dissolving agent (available at pharmacists’ counters and dental offices) this solution can clearly show them the plaque “growing” on their teeth. Now the detective work begins …allow them to brush away every “sugar bug” they find stuck to their now coloured-for-proof teeth.

2. So You Think You Can Sing AND Brush?

Why not let your inner rockstar out? Ask your child sing a tune while brushing their teeth, this can take the spotlight off the “chore” and put it on their ability to sing AND brush!

3. Zombie Contest

Zombies are all the rage. So why not hold a “foaming at the mouth” zombie style contest. See who’s mouth can become the frothiest, while your boisterous boy or girl brushes away harmful plaque.

Amidst the fun, don’t forget to compliment your kids on their accomplishments. Nothing motivates a child, like a “you-can-do-it!” praise corner.
