A beautiful smile is always in style, and there is no better time than the New Year to ensure your smile is in tip-top shape. From finally making that dentist appointment that you’ve been holding off, to setting up a teeth whitening treatments at a wide range of our DentistsRUs offices across Metro Vancouver, there are many ways to address your oral health both inside the dental office, as well as at home.

Toss Your Toothbrush
If you haven’t changed your toothbrush (or electric toothbrush head) in 3 months or more – now is the time. Not doing so means you are actually transferring bacteria back and forth from your toothbrush to your mouth, which – we can all agree – does not a healthy mouth make!

*Tooth Brushing Tip …be sure to brush your teeth in a circular motion with your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle, instead of the straight on back and forth motion, this method is meant to better clean your teeth.

Don’t Forget Your Tongue
Brushing your tongue, or using a tongue scraper, will keep your mouth fresher and cleaner also. Bad breath can be caused by the buildup of bacteria on your tongue, so scraping it daily will help to guard against this and keep your breath fresh and smell-free.

Try the Lick Test
Curious if you actually have bad breath? By licking the palm of your hand and smelling it while it is still wet, you will be able to detect how your breath smells. Mouthwash is a great way to get rid of additional bacteria, and although it does not beat brushing – it is a great added step for optimal oral health.

Brush First Thing
Cavity causing plaque can build and dry up as you sleep, so ensure you brush your teeth before you get your day started, and have a fresh (breath) morning!
