As we wrote about in our previous blog post, keeping your gums healthy is imperative to your oral health and helpful to your overall health, which is why we wanted to further explain these Top 5 Tips for Healthy Gums!

Don’t Forget the Basics
Brushing properly at least twice daily is important for gum health, which should be done with a NEW toothbrush every 3-4 months that provides soft bristles and is not damaging your gums when you brush.

Remember to Floss
Flossing is also another basic but important inter-dental cleaning habit that should be done once a day. Getting food, plaque and cavity causing bacteria out from in-between your teeth plays an important role in healthy gums and teeth. So although we say it often, both online and in person, we will say it again …be sure to FLOSS DAILY!

Invest in an Antiseptic Rinse
Rinsing with an antiseptic mouthwash will further aid in maintaining your oral health and keeping your gums in optimal condition. So find one you like, and implement this into your daily oral routine also.

Maintain Regular Dental Checkups
It is not for our benefit that we repeatedly tell our patients to maintain regular dental checkups. Of course we want to see your smiling face on a regular basis, but more importantly – we want to help you ensure the health of that smile, and can only do so if we see you regularly. Regular dental checkups can prevent or better maintain cavities with cleanings and small fillings – instead of having to conduct large fillings or root canals due to long stints between visits.

Take Stock of Your Diet
A healthy diet will also help you maintain your gums and overall oral health – as well as physical health in general. Raw fruits and veggies are not only good for you, but they also provide your teeth with a good “scrub” when you eat them, so they are an excellent mid-afternoon snack choice – especially if you don’t have a toothbrush handy.

At DentistsRUs, we care about your smile and can provide you with a dental professional in your local community, or within an area closest to your working environment to make it easier for you to stop in for an appointment.

So give us a call and allow us to help you keep your teeth and gums healthy for a radiant smile for years to come!
