Healthy gums play an important role in your overall health – both regarding your oral health as well as you’re bodies health too. And at DentistsRUs, we wanted to further explain why this is and educate our reading audience on the importance of healthy gums.

Gum Disease Statistics

People are taking a lot better care of their gums in the modern era in which we live, so gum disease has lessened in comparison to years past. However, it still affects around 1 in 10 adults with causes for gum disease including: flossing habits, genetics, diet, teeth brushing and infrequency of dental visits.

Gum Disease and Your Health

Did you know there are increased inflammation levels within your body when moderate to severe gum disease is present? It’s true, and there are studies that suggest gum disease and inflammation may be linked to heart disease, leading to the risk of stroke.

Lung health is also linked to periodontal disease, which is what can occur when gum disease worsens, and a risk of respiratory infections – such as pneumonia – has been connected to such things.

Healthy eating decisions is also a factor if you have lost teeth due to poor gum health, as chewing harder food options such as meet or raw fruit and veggies could be difficult.

Healthy smelling breath and one’s emotional health are associated to the health of your gums as well. Those who suffer from chromic bad breath are less likely to smile, and social embarrassment due to bad teeth or breath can cause people to pull away from activities and/or socializing in general.

At DentistsRUs, we want your oral health to be in optimal condition at all times, and can provide you with a dental professional in your local community, or within an area closest to your working environment to make it easier for you to stop in for an appointment.

Don’t put the health of your gums at risk by neglecting to keep regular dental appointments …give us a call and allow us to help you stay healthy and keep you smiling!
